HealthCom Media Launches Medicare Patient Management

Press Release
October 18, 2005

DOYLESTOWN, Pa., Oct. 18, 2005 -- HealthCom Media and the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (USP) are pleased to announce the launch of Medicare Patient Management – the first and only medical jou rnal dedicated to the informational needs of healthcare providers specifically related to Medicare patients.

“The implementation of the new provisions of the Medicare Modernization Act (MMA) will take effect shortly, providing prescription drug coverage to nearly 42 million beneficiaries, primarily seniors. This momentous occasion no doubt will influence the delivery of care to our nation’s fastest growing segment,” according to Editor-in Chief, Richard Stefanacci, DO, MGH, MBA, AGSF, CMD. “There is an informational need for the healthcare providers who are caring for this rapidly growing population and those payors who are newly setting systems in place to help them.”

MMA will provide an opportunity for increasing numbers of seniors to access or expand medical consultation and treatment. With these increases, there is the need for practitioners and healthcare systems to gain expertise in order to meet the needs of this specialized population, and to provide the appropriate services this new legislation mandates.

We plan to provide the caregivers and health systems an unprecedented perspective in areas such as:

·Legislative updates: What’s in the new law and evolving guidelines, and how do practitioners adapt and communicate with patients relative to the new MMA benefit

·Clinical updates: What are the unique and optimal care approaches for seniors

·Services Updates: How can Medication Therapy Management Programs, Disease Management and Preventive Services enhance outcomes

·Billing updates: How do practitioners bill appropriately as we move to a pay-for-performance system

·Legal updates: Understanding and responding to the latest developments in the law

“It is rare to identify a large unmet market need. No journal as yet exists solely to inform primary care providers and health systems about a totally new and evolving phenomenon such as MMA, electronic health records and other innovations specific to this population,” explains Group Publisher Greg Osborne, “and that’s where Medicare Patient Management fills the void. We’re particularly excited to engage HealthCom Media’s deep expertise and experience in Managed Care and Senior Care to provide an unmet need for the professionals we serve. This coupled with our unique reach of Primary Care Physicians is truly unprecedented.”

A high-powered team of Medicare thought leaders have joined the Medicare Patient Management advisory board. The journal will be distributed bi-monthly starting in Jan/Feb 2006 to a unique audience of approximately 50,000 physicians who are responsible for over 50% of all Medicare claims. Also included, are medical and pharmacy directors in managed care organizations, who are targeting this new member population.

HealthCom Media, a division of Health Affinities, LLC, is a specialty publishing company located in Doylestown, PA. HealthCom Media also publishes Assisted Living Consult and Menopause Management.

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia houses the nation’s first school of pharmacy (Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science) and also offers pharmaceutical sciences and physician assistant curricula. Dr. Stefanacci is the Executive Director of the USP Health Policy Institute, CMS Health Policy scholar, an active medical director of a skilled nursing facility, CCRC, and the St. Agnes Medical Center PACE program, and serves on the boards of several professional publications.
