While the official definition of an allied health professional is fairly vague, it's considered to be "any professional who's directly involved in the delivery of healthcare (other than a nurse, physician, or physician assistant)."
This includes OTs, PTs, respiratory care professionals, speech-language pathologists, or members of any one of hundreds of other disciplines.
Allied heath professions comprise more than 60 percent of the entire healthcare work force, and span over 200 distinct disciplinary groups. In the United States alone, approximately two million allied health professionals are employed.
